Position Title: Nurse Unit Manager
Position Purpose
This role will lead the delivery of exceptional, best practice nursing care to ensure excellent clinical outcomes and an industry leading patient experience. As a hospital leader, this position is responsible for the Unit’s performance across the following key domains: patient safety and quality, people and safety, financial, and operations.
Key Accountabilities
Improve Experiences:
Lead and provide an excellent standard of evidence based and person centred care to lead and provide safe, quality nursing care through comprehensive assessment, development of a plan, implementation and evaluation of outcomes in a timely and efficient manner. Advocates for and involves patients, their families and significant others to participate in care, goal setting and discharge planning.
Provide professional nursing leadership by ensuring all staff practice according to AHPRA professional standards, code of ethics and conduct, legislative requirements, Healthscope’s polices and processes, required registration, scope of practice and patient confidentiality and privacy.
Lead a learning environment within the Unit by maintaining own professional learning and continuous professional development and by providing coaching and guidance to ENs, RNs graduates, students and other staff.
Implement Healthscopes’ patient safety and quality frameworks within the Unit by identifying areas of improvement, leading and conducting clinical audits, leading quality improvement projects and the plan for the Unit, and participating in National Safety & Quality Healthcare Standards and risk committees/meetings.
Create and maintain a safe, high-performing and sustainable Unit by visibly leading a values and safety-led workplace culture. Practice two-way listening with staff, regular appreciation and recognition, and conduct coaching, performance and career conversations. Lead and deliver the daily management of workforce planning within the Unit and Work Safety and Health & Wellbeing practices.
Build strong relationships with external partners to ensure patients receive a high quality of care across the health care continuum.
Nurse Unit Manager Position Description
Support VMO partners by building positive and constructive working relationships, ensuring VMOs feel part of the Unit and that they adopt the Unit operating rhythms and ways of working, to enable high quality patient outcomes.
Grow our Business:
Deliver commercial outcomes of the Unit by leveraging data to proactively manage rosters and labour hours (including agency, over-time, skill-mix, attendance and alignment to activity), occupancy, discharges and length of stay.
Implement the OneHealthscope culture by adopting the OneHealthscope approach to processes, practices and systems within the Unit (operational excellence, people, risk, communication, brand, quality, education and clinical practice).

Qualifications for Success
Mandatory:
Bachelor of Science (Nursing)/ Nursing/ or equivalent Registered midwife with no restrictions with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - AHPRA
